The Rich-Web Business Suite was custom built in nine months by a team of four for a materials supplier to the Aerospace industry. The system provides integrated sales, purchasing, stock management, fulfillment and invoicing functionality. Although custom-built, the core of this system is applicable to virtually any enterprise that sources and purchases materials from a global supplier network and sells to a global customer base.
System functionality that will appeal in particular to materials suppliers in the chemical, aerospace, marine and defence sector includes (a) the ability to decant and repack products and (b) the ability to trace products sold to customers back to the original supplier's purchase order.
This state-of-the-art application suite provides a full "client-server" desktop-style experience delivered through a browser (which is minimised following user log-on).
It is fully forms-based with a rich Graphical User Interface. Fully J2EE compliant, the Rich-Web Business Suite runs over an intranet or the Internet, on Linux using Sybase's SQL Anywhere database.
The system can be customised to meet the additional requirements of an enterprise and to work with different databases.

The Rich-Web Business Suite comprises the following modules:
Sales Order Management
Sales quotations and new orders are generated from a product-centric summary screen providing a single view of all the information required by the sales team to generate sales quotes. This view includes stock and purchase order summary positions, sales history of the product and a list of suitable alternatives. Once the required product has been located, the creation of purchase requisitions and sales quotations/orders is a few clicks away.
The system manages the process of fulfilling sales orders, picking and despatching goods and raising the subsequent sales invoices. It maintains the traceability of products sold from invoice, back through sales order to goods receipt and purchase order, so that the source supplier of any sales item can be identified. All stock is tracked in this manner at the manufacturing batch level. The system is easily customised to create XML interfaces to external systems, including accounting systems.
Purchase Order Management
The system manages the raising of requests for quotation, purchase orders and the receipt of goods. It allows 'reservations' to be placed against purchase orders in order to satisfy outstanding sales orders. These reservations are automatically converted into confirmed stock allocations, against the appropriate sales order, on receipt of the goods. A feature of the system is the ability to place reservations against different pack variants of the product being sold; on reciept of the materials, the system will automatically flag that the goods need to be repacked.
Stock Management
It is possible to manage stock across multiple locations with the user having all the facilities necessary to move stock, return stock to suppliers, record returns from customers and make any necessary ad hoc adjustments. The system also facilitates the manual re-packaging of products.
Being a web-based system, it can be easily enhanced to permit customers worldwide to view stock availability and place sales orders in their own language, via the Internet.
